How much astrology research do you do? If you’re a pro and reading charts every day, I guess you glean subtle nuances and get more data corroborating established astrological laws all the time.
I’ve been very bookish in my study so far. Mostly because where else do you go if you are a bottom feeder and struggling with the basics? I don’t think I’m done with the basics yet. It’s staggering, but I still haven’t worked out the planetary dignities and debilities in my own chart. I’m thinking of buying Solar Fire once Mercury obliges us all by going direct again. Does it calculate dignities and debilities? And midpoints? I still don’t work with midpoints because I cast charts on astro.com and, as far as I know, when you’re doing transits and progressions there, there is no option for factoring in midpoints. Can Solar Fire do that? If it can do that, looks good and can pick up after itself and fetch things for me, then I think I’ll marry it! But, on a more serious note, which astrology software should I buy that will help me with this stuff? Which ones have you used and what do you like about them?
In my quest for more competence, I’m going to start practicing on friends and family. I’d even practice on my cat, but I don’t have his birth data. But going by his penchant for scratching and biting me, I can tell you that his Mars is doing all right. Doing all right by him, not all right by me.
Another thing I’m doing this year is tracking transits in my own chart. Not just the major ones. I’m tracking the moon as it moves through my chart. I started from the first of this year so I don’t much data so far. But I have noticed something interesting about timing of events. Not major life-shaking events (who wants them all the time, anyways?), just simple, ordinary, humdrum ones. Like having someone dropping in unexpectedly or suddenly cutting my finger. About the latter, I cut my finger while getting some chewing gum out of these medicine-like packs they now come in. It’s not the first time, either, that I’ve cut my finger on one of these. Why? Weren’t the cardboard/paper boxes good enough? Why this moronic packaging? Does it save paper? If it doesn’t then it’s just idiotic.
Sorry about the digression, transiting moon is currently igniting my natal Mars-Sun-Moon T-Square and I’m feeling cranky. Very cranky. But to return to the matter at hand, I’ve been casting charts for these events and what I’ve noticed is that when something like this occurs, my natal axes are involved. It can be the Tr. Moon on the ASC-DSC, IC-MC; but more often, the event chart reflects my natal axes. It’s uncanny. Watch for it in your life. Important parts of your day will echo your natal axes. I first learnt about the importance of this from Karen Hamaker-Zondag. She also found that when clients are late, they often show up when the time mirrors their axes.
I’ve noticed some people say they “feel” the energy change when a planet goes retrograde or when it moves into a new sign. I do not. My mood fluctuates on its normal focused-and-at-peace to cranky-and-will-snarl-at-you continuum no matter where Venus is or whether Mercury is retrograde or not. But even as I write this, I realize that the current Mars and Mercury retrogrades have upped the level of aggravation in my life. I’m fine, everything else is messed up. Wouldn’t you get irritable, too? 🙂
But why I bring this up is because of something that I “felt” the other day when Moon was in the early degrees of Libra. By mid-evening I was drained. All I wanted to do was get home and sleep. I didn’t even want to read. It wasn’t just physical exhaustion, it was some kind of emotional malaise, like all my enthusiasm had been drained out of me. Because I’m tracking the movements of the Moon, I realized that was the day it conjunct Tr Saturn and squared Tr Pluto. At the same time it was inching towards my natal Pluto. It gave me a taste of what people with planets or points in the early degrees of Cardinal signs are going through right now. And I can tell you one thing, it sucks!
I’ve been looking at charts of some new friends I’ve made. Two of them happen to be nine years younger than I am and our nodal axes are exactly reversed. The same thing would happen if I looked at charts of people nine years older than I am. I’ll check this out eventually, but have you seen this pattern in your life?
And what about Saturn? People who are seven, fourteen, twenty-one and twenty-eight years older or younger than us? Do a lot of women have a child when they are 28, at their first Saturn return? Ah, the child would have its natal Saturn conjunct its mothers’.
Numbers and patterns and relationships. I need to research this more.
