It wasn’t that late, but it was late. I was out to work up some sweat. It’s safe enough in my street but once I step out, the safety zone ends. There is a dark part of the road to navigate, a big ditch to avoid, ensuring you are not run over by passing traffic (the dark stretch is also narrow) and then there are lights but there are also so many men.

Half of them are security guards, but uniforms or not, they are men. Others are just men out for smoke breaks. Innocuous men, preoccupied men, creepy men, attractive men. It’s an environment that automatically makes you hypervigilant if you are a woman. And like most women, I’m very good at automatically scanning my environment covertly and move accordingly.

But at one point this evening, from the other side of the road and away from all the men, I scanned it openly. And I was reminded of TV shows body guards. You know those guys in black suits with dark glasses (if you are the American president) or dressed more casually if you are Maria Carey whose eyes are always peeled, looking everywhere, looking for danger. That, I thought, is  the Scorpio Moon, That image of someone scanning the environment for threats. Dark glasses optional. (more…)

Transiting Moon is in Scorpio and I’ve been having very Scorpionic conversations. About shared resources, slavery, the perceived divide between what we call our “mind” and what we call our “heart.” About the latter, I’m hoping my friends will write about that. They’ve hit on something interesting and it will make a valuable astrology post. (more…)

Wine red: the color of Scorpio passion

Wine red: the color of Scorpio passion

I subscribe to Big Sky Astrology on Facebook and it tells me that today the Moon is in Scorpio and it’s a good time to “perceive, confront, and transcend.” And this is exactly what you should do when the Moon plunges into the deep, inky depths of Scorpio. But Venus is still in a tight trine to Pluto, repeating the Scorpio theme of passion and all I can think is that sometimes passion is its own punishment.

If I had to pick a song for today, it would be Cutting Crew’s I Just Died In Your Arms. Look at the lyrics:

Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight
It must have been something you said
I just died in your arms tonight

I keep looking for something I can’t get
Broken hearts lie all around me
And I don’t see an easy way to get out of this
Her diary it sits on the bedside table
The curtains are closed, the cats in the cradle
Who would’ve thought that a boy like me could come to this
Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight
It must’ve been something you said
I just died in your arms tonight
Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight
It must’ve been some kind of kiss
I should’ve walked away
Is there any just cause for feeling like this?

Technically, with Venus having moved to 1 Virgo, the trine to Pluto at 0 Capricorn is waning. But, boy, I can still feel it! Pluto, the guy packs a punch! So if you want a “just cause for feeling like this,” you just tell them that, okay?

P.S. With the kind of synchronicity that makes us believers, Nick Van Eede, the lead singer of Cutting Crew has his Neptune and North Node in Scorpio opposing Moon and Venus in Taurus. Oh, he knew what he was singing about. Probably a Scorpio woman.

I hate it when my affection
gets randomly engaged

I loathe these arbit connections
What a waste!

I begrudge them
the mind space they occupy

I dislike the clutter
that they create in my mind

I don’t know how to love
without attachment

I don’t know how to do it
with Aquarian detachment

So I’m sitting here
With my brooding moon

I’m wanting to go Zen with it
Wanting it, and wanting it soon.
