Neptune is often implicated in allergies. One of my friends and I both have T-Squares involving Neptune, personal planets and the moon. We both have Pisces as our ASCs, as well. And we both suffer from “allergy colds.”
While she, perhaps wisely, stays away from allopathic medication; I reach for my antihistamines the moment I know I’m in the midst of an attack. So as I sit here writing this, waiting for the medicine to kick in, I’m listening to music and closing the browser window on articles I meant to read this evening. Some great posts, like this one and this one. Ordinarily, I would be all over them like white on rice, but at the moment I know I will not be able to assimilate much of what I read. Why? Because I have a cold.
One thing about allergy colds, though: they’re painless. And if you take a pill for them, you get mildly sedated and sleepy. It’s great really. Like right now, I have my favorite song on and I’m really into it because my mind has mostly shut down. I’m floating along with the music and the evening and a hot cup of tea. What’s not to like? Well, there is the little fact that I’m not capable of much right now. I can’t read any challenging material and I’m clumsy when I try to do things. Basically, I’ve become a half-wit.
When I woke up this morning and looked out of the window, there was fog everywhere. Do you wear specs? When the lens gets covered with something greasy, like a cream or Vaseline, the world looks smudged. You can’t see clearly. Same thing happens when your eyes tear. That’s what everything looked like in the morning: smudged. Like a smudged charcoal painting, but with white charcoal instead of black. Yeah, yeah. I know, charcoal can’t be white. Poetic license. We’re talking Neptune here, so poetic license.
Child of Neptune that I am, I find foggy landscapes exquisitely beautiful. There are no harsh edges and the world is enclosed in a mantle of romance and mystery. Virgo is strong in me, too, and my Virgo Mercury warns me of what can happen to the careless, the unwary, in such situations. A car you didn’t see coming or a pedestrian you didn’t spot in time and it’ll be the Bee Gees singing Tragedy.
Neptune rules fog. Think about it. Something as insubstantial as that can ground flights! There isn’t much you can do about it, either. It’s the same with allergies; they fog the mind and an attack can leave you pretty useless.
Thanks to allergy immunizations, I don’t get these attacks very often now. Oh, the irony! Pharmaceuticals are ruled by Neptune, too! Today’s attack was probably triggered by the fog through which I walked to work. Also, the transiting moon in Virgo is applying a square to my natal Neptune from the sixth house and triggering my T-Square. I don’t always succumb when the moon glides through the sign of the Virgin, but I will be collecting data on this to see if I can find any correlations.
Poetic justice, don’t you think? Setting Virgo (my Mercury) to pin down Neptune?
Very interesting. My Dad has Pisces rising with Moon conjunct Neptune in Libra- he’s pretty much allergic to everything. He used to take Claritin but he felt like he was on speed so now he just suffers through it (what a good martyr!)
what a beautiful post. thank you. and happy new year!

Agree. as another Pisces ASC, with Neptune in exact trine to Jupiter & also trine my 1st house sun (4 degrees sep) & 1st house Moon (3 degrees app), I am prone to colds, asthma & damp induced allergies. Yet, thanks to Mr Neptune, I can not tolerate cold/flu/allergy medications… I opt instead for the ultimate Neptunian medication… whisky!
Neptune in my 12th is definitely in my blind spot. I don’t really know what to do with him (it?), so this article is really helpful!
I didn’t know Neptune ruled colds and allergies! I’ve Pisces on the IC. I’m prone to sniffles myself but a recent prescription nasal spray seems to have done the trick.
Hitch, I know very little medical astrology, but I do remember reading that since Gemini rules the lungs, folks with mutuable axes are rather prone to respiratory ailments.
I have a Pisces Sun on the Desendent opposing my Virgo Moon on the Asc and Neptune T-squaring both my sun and moon from the IC. I have many allergies both environmental and food-related. My Pisces sun is also the ruler of my 12th house where Saturn resides…very undiagnosable health problems too…
Interesting… for a Pisces Sun, I’m actually an incredibly hardy person health-wise, short of one pretty serious bout of pneumonia when I was 20 and my current chronic fatigue syndrome, which is annoying but not life-threatening. I think I’ve involuntarily thrown up maybe less than ten times in my entire life. Probably because I have Saturn in the 6th. But nonetheless, I would be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy medication-induced fog. NyQuill is my preferred substance.
You need some cayenne pepper for your cold. Or a heaping portion of wasabi. Nothing to clear the fog (and the sinuses) like Martian food!
One year I was in Japan in the summer, the cedar trees are notorious for allergies. I took Allegra, it worked great, better than anything I ever tried before. Ever since then, about 10 years ago, I’ve never had a single allergy. I feel like I’ve been reset. Or maybe it’s the confidence I have now, I beat the most notorious allergen in the world, Japanese Cedars.
A friend of mine showed me how to use a biofeedback technique, you feel an allergy starting and you relax yourself instead of tensing up, it does reduce the attack quite a bit. Maybe I just don’t get tense and feed into the allergy attack, since I know I could just pop an Allegra tab. Or maybe the Allegra reset my immune response. But I don’t care how it works, I just know I’m totally free from my lifetime affliction of summer hay fever and I am so happy about that.

I just replaced the furnace filters in my house because I noticed the dust was collecting in the corners. The hardware store salesman said I had 2 choices, standard filters or Ultra Allergen filters for just a few dollars more. He said that he noticed great improvement in his allergies after using them. You might want to try them.
Sending you healing vibes! And laughter. Lots of laughter. Laughter heals, you know :).
Buuuuuurp.
I hardly ever get sick and try to take Vitamin C wherever possible and incorporate lots of water and colors into my meals. Especially greens.
I found that I got sick pretty darn often when I worked in a cozy classroom of fifteen children and a second teacher. Hated it. Love children. Hated what working beside the cuties each day during the Fall and Winter did to me.
It’s been a while since I’ve worked in a classroom and I don’t miss it so much.
Oh, and buuuuuuuuuuuurp.
